FROM THE FIELD : ONLY ONE MATCHUP LOOKS GOOD.

Byline: MICHAEL ROSENTHAL

The Lennox Lewis-Andrew Golota fight on Saturday took some life out of the heavyweight boxing picture.

Lewis' first-round knockout more or less eliminated Golota as a factor, given the manner in which the heretofore highly rated Pole went out, quickly and with only minimal resistance, which was a huge disappointment for those expecting an entertaining fight.

Either he just had the bad luck of being hurt, which means he was never able to show what he had, or Lewis' trainer, Emanuel Steward Emanuel Steward (born July 7, 1944 in Bottom Creek, West Virginia) is a boxing trainer, commentator and inductee of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame. Biography

because Bowe was a shot fighter.

At the moment, the latter seems more likely, which leaves the heavyweight ranks one thought-to-be-good fighter thinner.

With Mike Tyson out of the picture for now, what heavyweight matchups do we have to anticipate? Only one is particularly intriguing: WBA WBA West Bromwich Albion (English Soccer Club)
WBA World Boxing Association
WBA Weekly Benefit Amount
WBA Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (Madison, WI)
WBA Wireless Broadband Access

champ Michael Moorer, Holyfield's opponent on Nov. 8? Nah. He's a solid fighter but nothing special in or out of the ring. Rumor is, seats are selling slowly for the fight in Las Vegas.

Buster Douglas? Interesting but too old (37). Maybe Roy Jones Jr. should move up to heavyweight. At least he would bring some intrigue.

, it's Holyfield-Lewis, a matchup that would be attractive to both fighters.

Assuming Holyfield exacts revenge on Moorer, who beat him in 1994, Holyfield-Lewis would unify the three major titles, a goal of both heavyweights. And, of course, each fighter would earn monumental paydays.

The winner? Steward insists Holyfield is too small for the monstrous Lewis. Maybe and maybe not.

True, Holyfield has had trouble with Bowe and other big heavyweights while matching up better with smaller fighters like Tyson. We're talking about Holyfield here, however, the man with the huge heart, the smarts that come with experience and considerable skills. He also has a great chin.

And, remember, Lewis has yet to be tested by a top-flight heavyweight. Today, any heavyweight who claims to be the best in the world has to go through Holyfield.

So expect a good fight when it happens. After that? Who knows.
