Of course, neither of her statements turns out to be true, and that helps form the core of Robert Rodriguez's tirelessly fun action fantasy ``Spy Kids.'' It's a James Bond adventure featuring children who discover that secret agenting is in their genes.

This wacky salute to clan camaraderie pulls off the tough trick of making hanging with the folks seem cool. The moral here is, basically, the family that kicks bad-guy butt together stays put together.

The film is surprisingly sharp, for such an antic entertainment, on the subject of cross-generational communication. This is a function of writer-director Rodriguez's own status as a father of three young boys. But that's only part of the effect, and of the film's effectiveness.

``Spy Kids'' is an exploding toy box of special effects special effects, in motion pictures, cinematographic techniques that create illusions in the audience's minds as well as the illusions created using these techniques. , gadgets, robot monsters and Catalonian dreamscapes. It's the perfect amusement park amusement park, a commercially operated park offering various forms of entertainment, such as arcade games, carousels, roller coasters, and performers, as well as food, drink, and souvenirs.  as a 10-year-old love child of Gaudi and Dali might have designed it.

Carmen and Juni live in a big, Spanish-style mansion on some rocky seaside cliff with their parents, Gregorio (Antonio Banderas) and Ingrid (Carla Gugino Carla Gugino (born August 29, 1971) is an American actress best known for her roles of Ingrid Cortez in the Spy Kids trilogy and the title character of the TV series Karen Sisco. ).  is the one about the two superspies from opposite sides who fell in love and got married. Little does she know that her dull, sedentary folks - who now make their living as, um, ``consultants'' - were the protagonists of that story.

After several of their former colleagues mysteriously disappear, a rusty Ingrid and Gregorio eagerly get back in the game (they're as bored with domesticity as their kids are bored with them) - and promptly go missing themselves.

Seems that they've been captured by Juni's favorite TV show host, a kind of Pee-wee Herman/Willy Wonka/Son of Satan amalgam called Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming). He's a vengeful former colleague of the Cortezes who's secretly mutating spies into Teletubbies from Mars for his show, creating an army of powerful android An open platform for cellphones from the Open Handset Alliance (OHA).  and even manufacturing inept robot henchmen that are giant, walking five-thumbed hands. And he's not even the worst bad guy (as a fed-up associate notes, Floop is more concerned about increasing his show's ratings than working on their diabolical scheme).

Once informed of all this, Carmen and Juni swing into action. They bicker bick·er

Released as OVA, the series consists of eleven episodes referred to as operations and is most noted for its very extreme sexual content, most of which center around BDSM and similar fetish themes as well as  their parents have left around for just such an occasion.

The kids fly planes, invade Floop's high-tech funhouse of a castle keep, stay up late and generally live out every child's most cherished fantasies. What child their age doesn't dream of rescuing Mom and Dad, if only to hold it over them for the rest of their lives?

As anyone familiar with Rodriguez's more violent pictures (``El Mariachi,'' ``Desperado,'' ``From Dusk Till Dawn'') knows, the man has style to burn. He goes all out on this one, incorporating makeup and practical effects that he's been designing for years with loony, imaginative uses of computer graphics. The Texan's Latino heritage also flavors many of the designs and informs some of the film's irreverent humor, though both the kids and a lot of their playthings (the adults' stuff, too) are fully grounded in a kind of all-American goofiness.

To sum up, if you want your children to someday appreciate the true art of cinema, ``Spy Kids'' is a terrific movie to start with. Form perfectly matches theme here; it looks like fun and it is.
