                    FROM CD TO SHINING CD:
NYNEX INTRODUCES NATIONAL ELECTRONIC TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- NYNEX Information Technologies Company has introduced a national consumer and business digital telephone directory for use with personal computers. This new expanded national version of NYNEX FAST TRACK(R) Digital Directory will be available on a nine-volume set of CD-ROM (Compact Disc -- Read Only Memory) discs.
Powerful search-and-retrieval software makes NYNEX FAST TRACK the most flexible directory database of its kind. It allows users to locate and verify directory information by name, address, telephone number or ZIP code, and can even identify neighbor's information, anywhere in the U.S.A.
"The national CD-ROM product will be a powerful, cost-effective productivity tool for any business that can benefit from quick access to nationwide directory information because it will make over 70 million listings available with a few keystrokes," said Kurt Roessner, president of NYNEX Information Technologies.
The national nine-disc set will be packaged by geographic region. For customers requiring only specific regional listings, any combination of discs will be available. Each disc can be updated quarterly to incorporate new and changed listings. For large organizations with multiple users, a LAN (local area network) package will be available.
"Since 1987, when NYNEX FAST TRACK was first introduced with more than 10 million listings covering New York and New England, countless business have taken advantage of the time- and cost-savings of retrieving stored telephone directory listings by personal computer," said Roessner. "The new expanded version will make national search and reverse-search capabilities available on CD-ROM for the first time."
Primary users of NYNEX FAST TRACK digital directories include collection agencies and departments, law enforcement agencies, libraries, publishers and news media, government agencies and any business that wants to control its directory assistance spending. Pollsters, researchers and fundraisers have also used NYNEX FAST TRACK to lower the cost and increase the speed of their efforts to verify names, addresses and telephone numbers. Through an option called Corporate Directory Management System, companies can incorporate and customize their internal listings into NYNEX FAST TRACK for easy access to their private network listings.
NYNEX Information Technologies Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of NYNEX Information Resources Company, publisher of the NYNEX Yellow Pages. Formed in 1991, NYNEX Information Technologies markets database products and alternative media advertising services, as well as plans and develops future electronic information services.
