FRITZ CONTINUES EXPANSION IN GROWING ASIAN MARKETS; CHINA, SRI LANKA, BANGLADESH

SAN FRANCISCO, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Fritz Companies, Inc. has opened full service offices in China, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. With these new offices, Fritz now has 39 offices in 28 cities in Asia.
As Fritz anticipates the increasing demand for quality transportation logistics services in China, the Company has chosen to establish offices in Beijing, Tianjin and Dalian, all complementing the Fritz office in Shanghai. Being the air freight hub for Northern China, Beijing was the natural choice for Fritz to establish an air freight office in order to provide the most efficient services. Due to its close proximity to the Dalian and Qingdao ports, the Tianjin office offers ocean freight forwarding services and also coordinates shipments from these thriving origins. Tianjin has become a hot spot for foreign investment and business developments as a result of the PRC government declaring this city as a free trade zone, known as the "Tianjin Bonded Area". In early March, Fritz opened a full-service office in Dalian. The Dalian office, located within 10 kilometers from the Dalian port, specializes in logistics project cargo management and serves customers in the Northeast region of China.
Fritz' volume of activity in China has increased twenty-fold from 1992 to 1993 and we are handling an increasing volume of Free On Board (FOB) China freight rather than FOB Hong Kong freight, which was previously more prevalent. These new offices, along with other office openings slated for 1993 in Asia, will greatly enhance Fritz' competitive edge in Asia.
Noted Joe Monaghan, Managing Director of Asia in Hong Kong, "Fritz intends to bring the same expertise and automated freight management know-how to China as we have provided to clients throughout the rest of Asia." Mr. Monaghan has appointed Mr. Willy Fong, Country Manager in China, to spearhead Fritz' operations and services in China.
Another growing region is South Asia, in particular, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. As more manufacturing companies turn to Sri Lanka to produce their goods cost-effectively, Fritz realizes the importance in being able to provide quality transportation services in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This region is flourishing new market that exports major commodities such as wearing apparel, tea and rubber, and imports fabric, electrical items and machinery. Fritz' office in Colombo can accommodate all freight as we offer both ocean and air freight forwarding services.
Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing supply points for garment importers in the United States. Fritz has established three offices: Fritz Air Freight (Bangladesh), Dhaka, Fritz Ocean Freight (Bangladesh), Dhaka and Fritz Ocean Freight (Bangladesh), Chittagong. The Dhaka offices offer air and ocean freight forwarding services while the Chittagong office handles ocean freight.
Commented Joe Monaghan, "Fritz will continue building our comprehensive network in Asia by opening Fritz-owned offices and staff them with experienced personnel in order to control the service levels and communications demanded by our clients." Mr. Monaghan added, "Korea will be our next targeted area of expansion as we continue to establish a strong position as an international freight forwarder in Asia."
In the area of sales development and service quality, Mr. Monaghan has assigned Mr. Jae Lie, Country Manager of Fritz Taiwan, to coordinate all air freight sales activities in these growing areas. Currently, Fritz provides air and ocean transportation services in Asia for clients such as Sears, Ames Department Stores, Lane Bryant, The Gap, Country Seat, Nordstrom and Reebok.
Founded in 1933, Fritz is a leading global integrated logistics services provideer serving more than 20,000 clients, including more than half of the Fortune 1000. Currently, the largest customs broker in the United States, Fritz provides multinational corporations with a comprehensive line of innovative transportation services on a global basis.
