FRITO-LAY SUNCHIPS MULTIGRAIN SNACKS DEBUT COMMERCIALS DURING THE 35TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS SUN PUNS FROM SUNCHIPS BURST ON AIR ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24

 PLANO, Texas, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Frito-Lay, Inc. today announced the commercial debut for its Sunchips Multigrain Snacks, the two-year-old snack that currently ranks in the top 10 of all snack chip brands and posted more than $125 million in retail sales in 1992.
 The Sunchips brand will launch its new commercials on the 35th Annual Grammy Awards scheduled for 8 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, February 24 on CBS with an estimated viewership of more than 42 million people.
 "Sunchips opened a whole new chip category -- multigrain -- that has moved Frito-Lay into new snacking territory and we now have a winner of major proportions," said Steve Liguori, vice president of Frito-Lay brand marketing. "Although Sunchips has reached megabrand status in just two years, more than 70 percent of American households have not tried Sunchips or any other multigrain snacks. The Grammys are an ideal showcase to highlight Sunchips. The commercials focus on the brand's great unique taste that people of all ages really enjoy."
 Building on the successful advertising campaign launched in 1992, the commercials use familiar phrases that link the word "sun" directly to Sunchips. This year's commercials, which use both :15-second and :30-second executions, are titled "Sunspot," "Sunscreen" and "Sunshower." During the first flight of advertising, the :30-second version of "Sunshower" will air; "Sunspot" and "Sunscreen," packaged together as a :30-second ad, will also be used.
 The first execution, "Sunspot/Sunscreen," shows a young man swinging in a hammock, eating Sunchips while his dog Spot licks his chops anticipating a Sunchips treat. Just when the young man least expects it, Spot snatches the bag of Sunchips and takes off. As the ad continues with "Sunscreen," Spot scurries down a small town sidewalk and past an elderly couple, who are also enjoying their own bag of Sunchips. No sooner than Spot scoots past the couple, the gentleman's gaze is distracted by an attractive woman, prompting his wife to raise the Sunchips bag, blocking his view and creating a Sunscreen.
 In the second execution, "Sunshower," a young boy walks through a country market in search of the perfect snack and finds a huge display of Sunchips -- just a bit out of his reach. When the boy reaches for the Sunchips, hundreds of bags fall creating a Sunshower.
 During the second advertising flight, :15-second versions of all three commercials will be aired.
 In 1992, Sunchips launched its first-ever sun pun campaign with five :15-second commercials: Sunrise, Sunroof, Sun Bathing; Sunburst and Sun Block.
 The new campaign continues throughout the year with more than 15 weeks of network advertising planned. The brand also is launching a massive in-store sampling effort with more than 25 million samples to be distributed nationally by year's end.
