FRIENDS MOURN STABBING DEATH OF VALLEY MAN.Byline: RICK COCA Staff Writer WOODLAND HILLS -- A kind, funny man who was quick to dance -- with or without music -- 28-year-old Daniel Correa was considered by many people to be their best friend. And given his easygoing personality and upbeat view of life, Correa's friends are confounded by his fatal stabbing last weekend outside a Canoga Park bar. "He always had his arm around someone," said his longtime girlfriend, Jenny Schultz, 25, of Woodland Hills. "He let people know that he loved them." Correa was fatally wounded about 1 a.m. Sunday outside the Blarney Cove, 22105 Roscoe Blvd. Witnesses told police that a fight erupted in the parking lot between Correa and his friends and another group, and that at least two people in the other party drew knives. Correa died from a stab wound to the neck, officials said. Two brothers who were with Correa also were stabbed, one in the neck and the other in the back. Diana Tisinger, 43, of Reseda, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the attack on one of the brothers. Police are looking for an ex-convict, whom they refused to identify, in the slaying of Correa. "We don't know what caused or started this fight," said LAPD Detective Mike Pelletier. "We've got women getting knocked out. We've got guys getting knocked out. We're trying to sort out each individual's part in this melee because we've got people fighting, people with knives." Correa's brother, David Correa, 31, said he hopes police catch whoever is responsible for his brother's death. "It's just a shame because everybody needs him," he said. "He was the one who brought everybody together." Daniel Correa was a graduate of El Camino Real High School and was learning the plumbing trade. Schultz described her boyfriend as a gift. "He was this guy given to me on a silver platter, and in one second was taken from me so fast for a reason I'll never understand," she said. A funeral for Correa is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Gates Kingsley and Gates Praiswater Mortuary, 6909 Canoga Ave., followed by burial at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22600 Lassen St., Chatsworth. rick.coca@dailynews.com (818) 713-3329 CAPTION(S): photo Photo: Daniel Correa, seen with girlfriend Jenny Schultz, was fatally stabbed in a melee outside a Canoga Park bar last weekend. |
