The bloated hot dogs rotating at the local 7-Eleven are being blasted away with the company's determination to create an image of freshness in its aisles.

The tour comes as the chain mops up its truck-stop feel with a continuing rollout of products that emphasizes freshness.

``I didn't even know they had sushi,'' May said.

``As far as getting something fresh here, that's definitely something that's not expected,'' said Amir Aziz, a Sherman Oaks resident who buys newspapers and small items like chips and candy at the store. Still, the company's new approach seems to be working.

Seven-Eleven's revenue rose 12 percent in 2004 from the previous year, marking the 32nd consecutive quarter of growth for the company.

``We think we can break through and get the customer to try new things,'' said Kevin Gardner, the company's director of marketing.

As Walgreens executives tout themselves as ``7-Eleven on steroids,'' the chain is being pushed into new territory - like the realm of Starbucks.

The offering of fresh sandwiches that are delivered to 7-Eleven stores daily is similar to what Starbucks has been doing as well.

The new products unveiled this week will make their way to stores in waves over the next several months. The entire lineup should be in stores by summer.
