SANTA CLARITA - Operation Immunization, offering free vaccinations to Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  youngsters, starts this weekend with a clinic in Newhall.

The annual program will run through Aug. 24 and provide an estimated $230 worth of shots per child.

Immunizations are available for diphtheria, pertussis pertussis: see whooping cough.  (whooping cough), tetanus, polio, mumps, measles, rubella rubella or German measles, acute infectious disease of children and young adults. It is caused by a filterable virus that is spread by droplet spray from the respiratory tract of an infected individual. , meningitis and hepatitis A and B. The varicella varicella: see chicken pox.  (chicken pox chicken pox or varicella (vâr'əsĕl`ə), infectious disease usually occurring in childhood. It is believed to be caused by the same herpesvirus that produces shingles. ) vaccine will be available at some locations, pending availability. Tuberculosis skin tests also will be available.

Children 6 weeks to 18 years old are eligible and must be accompanied by a parent with a copy of their children's immunization records.

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Newhall Elementary School Health Fair, 24607 Walnut St., Newhall.

May 22, 3 to 6:30 p.m., Cedarcreek Elementary School, 27792 Camp Plenty Road, Canyon Country.

June 8, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, Agua Dulce Women's Club, 33201 Agua Dulce Canyon Road.

June 11, 3 to 6:30 p.m. Santa Clarita Valley Service Center, 24271 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , Newhall.

June 28, 1 to 4 p.m., Valencia Library community room, 23743 Valencia Blvd.

July 24, 3 to 6:30 p.m., Valley View Elementary School, 19420 Sierra Estates Drive, Newhall.

July 26, 1 to 4 p.m., Valencia Library community room, 23743 Valencia Blvd.

Aug. 15, 3 to 6:30 p.m., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885, 16208 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country.

Aug. 17, noon to 4:30 p.m., Val Verde Park, 30300 W. Arlington St., Val Verde.

Aug. 24, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Service Center, 24271 San Fernando Road, Newhall.
