Encino resident Mindy Lebovic has been a volunteer at the agency for three years. ``What we do is dress kids who don't have clothes to go to school,'' she said. ``The thing I love about this is that you're physically working with the kids; that is the most rewarding part of it.'' The idea to provide prom dresses came to Lebovic one day at the Hollywood location, which is open four days a week to outfit students. ``I happened to be working with the kids on a day when someone mentioned how nice it would be if we could provide prom dresses for the girls,'' Lebovic said. ``I said, I can do that.'' Art Wolf, Lebovic's father, lived in Tarzana for 46 years before moving to Palm Springs. When Wolf asked Kahenassa for help, the businessman packed up 50 gowns to send to Operation School Bell with a message that if they needed more, there were more, Lebovic said. ``He took the time to pack up age-appropriate gowns ... these girls looked like fairy princesses,'' Lebovic said. Lebovic said the Hollywood facility, which provides services to 20 students a day, looks more like a department store than a distribution center. The bounty includes two sets of tops and pants with socks and underwear. This year new jackets were also distributed. Each child is given special attention. ``We have each of these kids for about 40 minutes ... they are so grateful and so appreciative. Even the the teen-age boys, who are about 14 or so, are so grateful,'' she said. Suzanne Kahane lives in Sherman Oaks and is chairwoman of Operation School Bell. ``The icing on the cake is the work with the kids,'' she said. ``We distributed about 80,000 units of clothing this year ... they don't go home empty-handed,'' Kahane said.
