FREE INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO COPE WITH HURRICANE AFTERMATH
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Residents of South Florida who are suffering from anxiety, shock or depression in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew can receive free information to help them cope with this disaster by calling the National Mental Health Association's (NMHA) toll free number, 800-969-NMHA (or 6642).
NMHA has easy-to-read fact sheets on handling stress, helping children handle disaster-related anxiety and understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), an anxiety disorder resulting from surviving a terrifying, life-threatening event such as a hurricane.
For more than 80 years the National Mental Health Association has served the mental health needs of this country through public information and education, family support services and community outreach. During this time of crisis, NMHA is mobilizing national resource materials to assist its South Florida affiliates in meeting the long-term mental health needs of affected communities.
