FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS OFFERED AT LOCAL EXPO.

NEWHALL - A Health Fair Expo Saturday in Newhall will provide free health screenings and low-cost blood work, including a test for prostate cancer prostate cancer, cancer originating in the prostate gland. Prostate cancer is the leading malignancy in men in the United States and is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in men. .

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Free health screenings will be offered for blood pressure and bone density, glaucoma, oral cancer, skin cancer and risk of stroke and lung and pulmonary malfunctions.

The prostate cancer screening Prostate cancer screening is an attempt to identify individuals with prostate cancer in a broad segment of the population—those for whom there is no reason to suspect prostate cancer.  at Saturday's event will cost $55 and a comprehensive metabolic panel comprehensive metabolic panel Lab medicine A battery of analytes–albumin, alk phos, AST, BUN, calcium, chloride, glucose, potassium, sodium, total protein–which are measured to establish a baseline and detect metabolic disorders. See Panel.  that includes thyroid-function testing will cost $40.

The low-cost blood tests will be offered by Clinical Pathology clinical pathology

2. The subspecialty in pathology concerned with the theoretical and technical aspects of laboratory technology that pertain to the
 Laboratory of Antelope Valley. The blood screenings have become a fundraiser for laboratory employee Neannie Patterson's granddaughter, who has been diagnosed with a rare metabolic disease. The child is being treated in the Bay Area and money from the event will help finance her treatment. The lab staff is volunteering its services.
