FREE CLASSIC CAR SHOW AT GRANT PARK ROSE GARDEN SUNDAY

    CHICAGO, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The picturesque rose garden at Grant Park will serve as the perfect backdrop for the $50 million worth of vintage cars which will be on display Sunday, at the Chicago International Concours d'Elegance.  This spectacular event -- sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of North America and produced by M.S.E. International -- will feature classic examples of Mercedes-Benz, Rolls Royce, Duesenberg and vintage Cadillacs.  This year's honored marquee is Packard.
    The Concours d'Elegance will include about 90 rare and unusual automobiles that will be judged in 10 different car classifications: Mercedes-Benz, Packard, Antique & Vintage dating through 1924, American Classics Open 1925-1942, American Classics Closed 1925-1942, Post-War European Classics, Post-War American, Classic Sports Cars, Racing Cars and Rolls Royce/Bentley.
    The prestigious panel of judges includes: Csaba Csere, editor of 'Car and Driver' Magazine; Matt DeLorenzo, editor of 'Autoweek' Magazine; Bill Spoerle, head of restoration at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum; and Ken Gross, contributing writer to 'Automobile' and 'Playboy' magazines.
    Some of the fabulous cars featured in the Concours include: 1910 Mercedes race car that competed in the first-ever Indy 500, a multimillion dollar 1938 Mercedes-Benz MX  Bnd a classic Mercedes 300SL "gullwing" and a 1931 Mercedes-Benz 370S Mannheim sports convertible which has a market value over $1,000,000 but was originally purchased for $1,500 at a garage sale in Wisconsin.
    Preceding the Concours d'Elegance on Saturday is the first annual Great Gatsby Gala dinner dance held at the Four Seasons Hotel.  Many concours exhibitors will drive their vintage cars to the gala.  Several of these cars -- including a Mercedes 600 Pullman limousine once owned by Hugh Hefner -- will be on display outside the Four Seasons.  Guests will be dressed in attire from the Gatsby era.  Tickets are still available for $125 and can be obtained by calling 312-563-0495. Proceeds benefit Maryville Academy, a home for physically and emotionally abused children.
