FREE CHILDREN'S IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THRIFT DRUG
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Thrift Drug announced today it is helping to launch, with the American Health Foundation and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the first national Child Health Day Observance on Oct. 5.
In support of this first observance, Thrift Drug is making available a children's immunization card which serves as a reminder to parents about when to get their child immunized against a variety of childhood diseases.
Routine checkups at a doctor's office or local health clinic are the best way to keep children healthy, and getting a child immunized on schedule can provide the best defense against dangerous childhood diseases, Thrift Drug said.
The one-page card includes information on child immunizations and an immunization schedule and will be available in the pharmacy section of all Thrift Drug stores throughout October or until supplies last. The source of this information is the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The purpose of Child Health Day is to generate public attention to the need to help ensure that children receive immunizations against certain childhood diseases. In recent years, the immunization level of children has declined to approximately 60 percent.
Child immunization means protection from nine major diseases: hepatitis B, polio, measles, mumps, rubella (German measles), pertussis (whooping cough), diphtheria, tetanus (lockjaw), and Haemophilus influenzae type b.
"Thrift Drug recognizes that many parents want this kind of guide," according to Trish Orchard, manager of marketing services, "and we're pleased to distribute this helpful information."
Thrift Drug, Inc. is the 11th largest drug store chain, and operates more than 540 stores in 18 states.
