Lagos (lā`gŏs, lä`gôs), city (1991 est. pop. 1,274,000), SW Nigeria, on the Gulf of Guinea. It comprises the island of Lagos. Lagos is Nigeria's largest city, its administrative and economic center, and its chief port.
 took over as Chile's new president in March, he inherited an old problem: what to do about Augusto Pinochet.

After European doctors determined the 84-year-old former dictator was mentally and physically unfit to stand trial on torture charges stemming from his 17-year rule in Chile, Pinochet ended 503 days in British captivity.

Will Lagos wait for Chilean courts to determine the dictator's fate, intervene him self, or do nothing? Answering that question is already the toughest test of his fledgling government.
