FRANKLIN UNVEILS INTERNET-BASED PHONE SYSTEM.

Franklin Telecom, a Westlake Village-based manufacturer of telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. See communications.  equipment, said Wednesday that it has developed a ``no-computer-needed,'' Internet-based long-distance telephone system that could dramatically cut the cost of some long-distance telephone calls.

The system lets a user place a call from any telephone to any other phone over the Internet without requiring special software or hardware. Franklin said it will initially market the service for real-time telephone calls and voice mail, and plans to eventually offer fax, fax broadcast and so-called ``follow-me'' and ``find-me'' call forwarding call forwarding

News of the service gave Franklin shares a major boost, rising 75 cents Wednesday and an additional 18.7 cents Thursday to close at $3.437.
