FRANCE'S AIR LITTORAL TAKES DELIVERY OF FIRST CANADAIR REGIONAL JET

MONTREAL, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Littoral of Montpellier, France, today took delivery of the first two 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jet aircraft from the Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division.
Air Littoral will operate this first Canadair Regional Jet in Air France livery, under contract with the flag carrier on European routes. The second aircraft will operate under the Air Inter banner on the Bzier-Paris domestic route. Both services are slated to begin operation in November 1993.
Pierre Lortie, president of the Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division, said that this delivery solidifies the presence of the Canadair Regional Jet in Europe. "This is a perfect example of the niche for which the aircraft was designed. As the only 50-seat jet available, it can extend regional routes on point-to-point service, increase the operational radius from hub airports, improve the quality of service to airline passengers and enhance airline profitability. The Canadair Regional Jet is particularly well suited to replace larger jets on long, thinly-travelled routes and better service regions."
Air Littoral is a French regional airline based in Montpellier which currently operates EMB120, ATR42, ATR72 and Fokker 100 aircraft. The transaction with Bombardier confirms the complementary role Air Littoral will play in the French market in co-operation with Air France, a role confirmed by the French Minister of Transport, Bernard Bosson, on October 14, 1993 before the commercial transportation council.
The Canadair Regional Jet, over its first year in revenue service in Europe and North America, has demonstrated significant improvements in performance over initial specifications. An 8 percent reduction in total fuel consumption greatly enhances the aircraft's operating economics while its noise and emission levels are significantly lower than international standards, allowing the Canadair Regional Jet to operate into environmentally sensitive airports with little or no restrictions.
The Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division and Canadair are units of Bombardier Inc., a Canadian corporation with 34,000 employees internationally and annual sales of $4.4 billion. Bombardier is engaged in the fields of aerospace, transportation equipment and motorized consumer products.
Bombardier has manufacturing facilities, service divisions and offices is Austria, Canada, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States.
