FPL REPORTS ELECTRIC SERVICE RESTORATION PROGRESS
MIAMI, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company

reported this morning that approximately 730,000 homes and businesses (customer accounts) have been returned to service in the first day after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew's pass through South Florida.
Immediately following the storm Monday morning, approximately 1.4 million customers (accounts) were without electric service. This morning that number was reduced to approximately 670,000.
As FPL uses accounts or meters as a measure of customers, the actual number of people initially affected by the storm outages was in excess of three million people, primarily in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in southeast Florida, as well as in areas around Naples, Fla., on the southwest coast of Florida where Hurricane Andrew exited the state into the Gulf of Mexico.
Service outages remaining this morning are as follows:
 Dade -- 600,000
 Broward -- 60,000
 Palm Beach -- 2,000
 Naples -- 10,000
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
