FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION OVERVIEW

 FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION OVERVIEW
MIAMI, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- FPL today released the following

comments from Steve Frank:
This is the ninth day of FPL's hurricane plan implementation, and this morning we have approximately 200,000 customer accounts out of service in Dade County. We have now restored approximately 87 percent of the 1.4 million customer accounts that were initially without service.
Although we are steadily decreasing the number of homes and businesses without electricity, the improvement continues to be at a slower pace than last week because we are well into the most difficult work.
We know that some customers are seeing lights in their neighbors' homes across the street as field crews rebuild the system block-by-block, and we understand that many are wondering when they will have electricity, too. These situations occur because of the way the electrical grid is designed and because of the way our restoration plan works. We appreciate our customers' concern and frustration, and we are working around the clock to bring electricity to everyone.
In our effort to restore power in Dade County, we have in fact moved so many crews from other parts of our service territory that our response to outages and requests for new service has resulted in some delays for our customers in unaffected areas. We continue to meet our service obligations elsewhere in our system, but with crews that are not fully staffed because so much of our resources are concentrated in Dade County.
FPL also would like to remind our customers that thunderstorms in restored areas of Dade County can still interrupt service. Because FPL is focusing on restoring power to as many areas as possible, it will be some time before we are able to re-construct redundant transmission systems that allow us to recover from thunderstorm outages relatively quickly.
Now, Bob Marshall and Bill Hamilton have further details on our restoration plan and activities.
