FOXES NAMED TO GUARD MANAGED-GROWTH HEN HOUSE.

I was surprised and disappointed to read in the Daily News (Aug. 4) that Mayor Jo Anne Darcy had appointed Jeff Stevenson, a developer employee, to the Committee on Managed Growth for Quality Community. For one thing, there is already a developer on this committee, Bill Ratazzi.

Another, perhaps more important reason, is that I had written to the mayor requesting that she appoint a person to the committee with known environmental concerns, a person who has volunteered his expertise to be on committees and who is also a Sierra Club Sierra Club, national organization in the United States dedicated to the preservation and expansion of the world's parks, wildlife, and wilderness areas. Founded (1892) in California by a group led by the Scottish-American conservationist John Muir, the Sierra Club  member.

The response I received from Mayor Darcy, dated almost simultaneous with her appointment of Mr. Stevenson Mr. Stevenson is the main protagonist of the NES game, Gumshoe. He is a former FBI agent gone detective and has a daughter named Jennifer. According to the Official Nintendo Player's Guide, his first and middle initials are R. L. , was that she had no intention of adding another member to the committee: ``that I am trying to keep the group small . . . I am not wanting to add more of the same classification at this time . . . If I didn't include developers, I wouldn't be giving fair representation to that side.''

The only appointee APPOINTEE. A person who is appointed or selected for a particular purpose; as the appointee under a power, is the person who is to receive the benefit of the trust or power.  of environmental leanings is Barbara Wampole, a member of Friends of the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:
  • Santa Clara River (California), a river in Southern California, United States.
  • Santa Clara River (Utah), a river in Utah, United States
  • Carmen River, a river in Mexico that is sometimes called the Santa Clara River
.

Furthermore, to invite a developer into a growth committee is like inviting the fox into the hen house. By occupation and interest, a developer's primary obligation is to his client(s).

One wonders why smart-growth people, like Keith Pritsker from Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Stevenson Ranch fountain was redone in 2007.  and Diane Territo, evade the eye of Mayor Darcy when it comes to selection of her committee.

Castaic is represented, so why not Stevenson Ranch? So far, the appointees seem to be people of the same interests who offer minimal opposing viewpoints - this is not a true reflection of this community. We are desperately in need of far-sighted far·sight·ed or far-sight·ed

Instead we get Janus-faced representation that threatens to cater to developers at the expense of comprehensive and orderly urban growth patterns.

Slow the growth

Ah, the California Dream. Families, baseball, soccer, dogs, parks, the beach . . . It is so easy to get buried in these glorious routines of daily living.

But for how long can I or anyone else ignore this or pretend this dire situation in our valley does not exist? This gross neglect of planning in a so-called master-planned community is mind boggling.

Rarely have I witnessed such blatant buck passing as with this council. It seems that our City Council is no more than a facade with both their hands and guts tied behind their backs - an agency at the mercy of the county, of the school districts and of short-sighted land developers.

This is no way to run a community - unless that is, of course, the plan is to run it into the ground.

There are as many options open to you to correct or at least slow down these rapid, detrimental changes to our community as those roadblocks you tout as insurmountable.

Instead of employing these options, it seems the council has chosen to hide behind the enormous girth GIRTH., A girth or yard is a measure of length. The word is of Saxon origin, taken from the circumference of the human body. Girth is contracted from girdeth, and signifies as much as girdle. See Ell.  of red tape and call themselves innocent and helpless.

I feel betrayed as I watch the community mindlessly railroaded into becoming another San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
