 FOX'S 'THE VANISHING' STARTED PRODUCTION APRIL 6
 BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Twentieth Century


Fox's "The Vanishing," starring Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland and Nancy Travis, started production April 6, it was announced today, April 14, by Roger Birnbaum, president, Worldwide Production and executive vice president, Twentieth Century Fox. George Sluizer will direct this English-language version of his internationally acclaimed psychological thriller, in which a man becomes obsessed with learning the fate of his girlfriend who has mysteriously disappeared. The screenplay is by Todd Graff. A Morra, Brezner and Steinberg Production for release by Twentieth Century Fox, "The Vanishing" will be produced by Larry Brezner and Paul Schiff. The associate producer is Miriam Kazdin.
 Also starring are Sandra Bullock (Fox's upcoming "Love Potion No. 9"), Lisa Eichhorn ("Yanks") and newcomer Maggie Linderman. The cinematographer is Peter Suschitzsky ("Naked Lunch"), the production designer is Jeannine Oppewall ("White Palace") and the costume designer is Durinda Wood ("Sibling Rivalry").
 Bridges, a three-time Academy Award nominee for "The Last Picture Show," "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and "Starman," recently won wide acclaim as the self-destructive disc jockey Jack Lucas in "The Fisher King." Among his other starring roles are "Texasville," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "Tucker: The Man and His Dream," "Against All Odds," "Jagged Edge," "Cutter's Way," "King Kong," "Stay Hungry," "The Iceman Cometh," "Fat City," "The Last American Hero" and "Bad Company." He will next be seen in "American Heart," on which he also served as one of the producers.
 Sutherland's rapid rise to stardom has seen the young actor play leading roles over the last four years in the hit supernatural thrillers "Flatliners" and "The Lost Boys" and Fox's release of Morgan Creek's popular westerns "Young Guns" and "Young Guns II." His first major dramatic role was in the Canadian film "The Bay Boy," which brought Sutherland and director Daniel Petrie Genie Award nominations. Sutherland has also starred in "Article 99," "Chicago Joe and the Showgirl," "Flashback," "Renegades," "1969," "Bright Lights, Big City," "Promised Land" and "Stand by Me." He will next be seen in David Lynch's film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" and Rob Reiner's "A Few Good Men."
 Travis made her film debut in "Three Men and a Baby" and also starred in its sequel, "Three Men and a Little Lady." Her other films include Jonathan Demme's "Married to the Mob," "Eight Men Out," "Loose Cannons," "Internal Affairs," "Air America" and currently "Passed Away" with Bob Hoskins. Most recently, she reunited with co-star Robert Downey Jr. for "Chaplin," directed by Sir Richard Attenborough.
 Sluizer, who is making his third English-language film with "The Vanishing," had his first American release with the Dutch film "Spoorlos" ("The Vanishing"), which he co-wrote with Tim Krabbe, the author of the novel "The Golden Egg" on which the film was based. An international writer-producer-director, Sluizer saw his 1972 film "Joao and the Knife" nominated by Brazil for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. His most recent film, "Utz," won the Audience Favorite Award and the Best Actor Award for its star Armin Mueller-Stahl at the 1992 Berlin Film Festival.
 A writer who has also pursued a successful career as an actor, Graff wrote the upcoming "Fly By Night," in which he also appears, and a Largo Entertainment Production for release by Twentieth Century Fox currently titled "Used People," starring Shirley MacLaine and Marcello Mastroianni. His next script to go before the cameras will be "The Crowded Room," which he wrote for director James Cameron. Graff won the Richard Rodgers Award as co-author of the stage musical based on the novel "Sheila Levine is Dead and Living in New York."
 Producer Brezner's films include two of the biggest hits of 1988: "Good Morning, Vietnam" and "Throw Momma from the Train." His other films include "Coupe de Ville" and the upcoming "Clifford" and "Passed Away." Brezner was also part of the production team that presented the Orion hit "Arthur." As a partner in the personal management firm of Morra, Brezner and Steinberg, Brezner has helped guide the careers of such comedy talents as Martin Short, Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. For television, Brezner produced Williams' award- winning HBO special "An Evening at the Met," as well as comedy specials for Short and Crystal.
 Schiff has produced three previous films starring Sutherland, the hit westerns "Young Guns" and "Young Guns II," and "Renegades," co- starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Schiff's other credits as a producer are "Coupe de Ville" and Fox's hit comedy "My Cousin Vinny." He also served as associate producer on "Streets of Gold" and "Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise."
