FOUR NEW LCD PROJECTION PANELS GIVE IN FOCUS SYSTEMS
 INDUSTRY'S BROADEST PRODUCT LINE
TUALATIN, Ore., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- In Focus Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: INFS) today announced four new LCD projection panels which give it the broadest product line in the industry. The new product line includes nine panels and projection systems to suit the price/performance needs of every customer. The company offers products ranging from low-end black and white LCD panels for the price-sensitive education market to high-end video projection systems for multimedia presentations.
"We intend to match our product performance with the requirements of the application. To do this, we will use the appropriate technology -- our proprietary version of passive matrix, or active matrix technology -- to best suit the user's actual application needs," stated Andy Leonard, vice president of marketing and sales for In Focus Systems. "In addition, we have priced our systems aggressively to provide the most value to our customers," he added.
The four new products include the 7600XGA, the industry's first 1024 x 768 resolution LCD projection panel. The panel has a 24,000 color palette and is designed to maximize the amount of information displayable under Windows(TM), as well as project sophisticated graphics such as computer-aided design, 3D modeling and medical imaging. With the 7600XGA, the user can project images at 1024 x 768, 800 x 600 and 640 x 480 resolution with up to 24,389 colors displayed. The 7600XGA is a passive matrix panel and exemplifies the inherent flexibility of the proprietary TSTN technology from In Focus. The 7600XGA panel is list priced at $7,995 (U.S.)
The TVT-3000 offers customers an active matrix LCD projection panel with 262,144 colors -- the largest palette size available. The TVT-3000 can run animation, multimedia applications like QuickTime(TM), computer-based video and live video at up to 30 frames per second. To run live video, the system requires an NTSC to RGB converter which is available from In Focus. The new panel features a contrast ratio of 100:1 and is capable of displaying images with 640 x 480 resolution. Priced at only $5,995 (U.S.), the TVT-3000 is among the lowest priced panels in its performance category.
The 7000FX+ is a passive matrix panel featuring a 24,000-color palette with rich saturation. With a 20:1 contrast ratio, (double the current standard for passive matrix panels), its image quality rivals that of TFT panels costing significantly more and boasts the ability to display 640 x 480 resolution with the full 24,000 color palette. Complementing the panel's high image quality are mouse speed response rates which track cursor movement during training sessions and presentations. The panel is available at $4,995(U.S.)
The 1600GS is a low-cost black and white passive matrix LCD projection panel with the highest contrast and fastest mouse speed available today on a black and white system. The panel features 16 levels of grey scale for representing the colors most commonly used in software today. It has a contrast ratio of 25:1 and 640 x 480 resolution. Targeted specifically at the price-sensitive education market, the 1600GS is compatible with most Apple and IBM computers used in school systems today and is list priced at $1,695 (U.S.)
All the new products feature built-in loop-through so the user can see the image on the monitor and projection screen simultaneously, on- screen set-up menus, and push button rear-projection mode to facilitate set-up of a sophisticated rear-projection presentation. All except the 1600GS include a remote control for image adjustments.
The expanded In Focus product line will be displayed at this year's InfoComm International trade show in Washington, D.C., from Feb. 6 - 10. The products are scheduled to ship by the second quarter of 1992.
