FORMER SCHOOL GUARD GUILTY OF ASSAULT SECURITY EMPLOYEE HIT, KNEED QUARTZ HILL HIGH PRINCIPAL IN OFFICE.

LANCASTER -- A former Quartz Hill High School Quartz Hill High School is a public, co-educational high school located in Lancaster, California. Founded in 1964, it is the third oldest comprehensive high school in the Antelope Valley High School District (AVHSD).  security guard convicted of assaulting the principal faces up to three years in prison.

Andrew "Rocky" Santos, 43, also is charged with a misdemeanor, violating a protective order by threatening a school employee.

 said. "It's sad that Mr. Santos was not able to control himself and threw away the life he built for himself in a moment of anger."

Santos was found guilty Monday of felony battery on a school employee. He had been free on bail but after the verdict was ordered back into custody on $100,000 bail. Sentencing was set for Oct. 5.

Santos was charged with punching and kneeing Principal Mark Bryant on March 13 in Bryant's office, leaving him with bruises, swelling, cuts on his head and face, and a hyperextended thumb.

Santos had asked to meet with Bryant to discuss a written reprimand REPRIMAND, punishment. The censure which in some cases a public office pronounces against an offender.
     2. This species of punishment is used by legislative bodies to punish their members or others who have been guilty of some impropriety of conduct towards them.
 Santos received the day before from the school's security director for failing to pick up trash on campus.

Santos' attorney did not return calls for comment.

Prosecutors did not have specific information on the misdemeanor case, which was filed in June. Santos resigned from his job shortly after the altercation.

The Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

District officials defended the school's actions and did not meet the ACLU's demands, trustees said.

Board President Tom Pigott said he felt that the jury had reached the proper verdict.

"I hope it sends a message to other employees: if you have disagreements, violence is not the way to handle them," Pigott said.
