FORMER NBC CHIEF HAS NEW FOX ROLE.

 syndication See syndication format.  chief Ed Wilson was named president of Fox Broadcasting Co. Tuesday, where he will be responsible for all non-programming aspects of the network.

Wilson cited his past working relationship with Fox Networks Group President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Tony Vinciquerra as a chief reason for being ``ecstatic'' about the new job.

Wilson's decision last month to depart NBC came as a major surprise to the television industry because it occurred just as NBC's merger with Vivendi Universal's entertainment assets is due to be finalized See finalization. . Wilson had been favored to lead the merged syndication units of NBC and Universal.

``Tony and I had a couple of preliminary conversations,`` Wilson said. ``I had to decide if I was staying or leaving and knowing that there was this out there certainly made it easier.''

``I think I'm going into an organization that is in terrific shape,'' he said. ``My goal is to go in there and work with the people and try and see if there's an opportunity here and there to think outside the box, but not too outside.''

Vinciquerra said in a statement that Fox is ``lucky'' to have Wilson aboard. The executive announced just last month that he would be leaving NBC.

``Ed Wilson is one of the most gifted operational executives in the television business,`` Vinciquerra said. ``His extensive sales, marketing and administrative background, as well as his close relationships with station groups, will serve him well as he helps to lead what I believe is the most impressive management team in the broadcast industry.''

While at NBC, Wilson's responsibilities included global distribution of the company's shows to domestic and foreign syndication. He was responsible for the launching of NBC's first-run syndication division, which will produce a daily talk show hosted by Jane Pauley Margaret Jane Pauley (born October 31, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American television journalist, and has been involved in news reporting since 1975. She is most known for her 13 year tenure on NBC's "Today" program and later 12 years of "Dateline NBC," and has  to debut next fall.
