FOREST WHITAKER SET TO STAR IN MGM'S 'BLOWN AWAY'

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaimed actor Forest Whitaker has been set to star in MGM's "Blown Away," completing the main casting for the high-powered action-thriller. He joins previously announced stars Jeff Bridges, Tommy Lee Jones, Lloyd Bridges and Suzy Amis in the suspenseful story about the head of a bomb squad who matches wits with an ingenious bomber.
Portraying the cocky and street-smart new addition to Boston's elite bomb squad, Whitaker gains a healthy regard for the dangers of his new job when he finds himself a target of the bomber (Jones). In turn, he earns Bridges' own grudging respect for his courage after the two cops are partnered.
Whitaker most recently earned widespread praise for his work in the Academy Award-winning drama "The Crying Game." His previous film work includes starring roles in such diverse movies as "Diary of a Hitman," "Consenting Adults," "A Rage in Harlem," "Good Morning Vietnam" and his breakout performance in "Bird." He also appeared on television in such projects as "Hands of a Stranger," "Amazing Stories" and "North an South." He will next be seen in the Showtime movies "Lush Life" and "Last Light" and has recently made his directing debut on HBO's upcoming film entitled "Strapped."
"Blown Away" will be directed by Stephen Hopkins ("Predator 2," "Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child") from a screenplay by Joe Batteer and John Rice. The film is being produced for MGM by Trilogy Entertainment's John Watson, Pen Densham and Richard Lewis ("Robin Hood: Price of Thieves," "Backdraft"), with Lloyd Segan executive producing.
"Blown Away" is scheduled to begin principal photography on Aug. 23 on location in Boston.
