FOREST WHITAKER JOINS CAST OF 'BODY SNATCHERS;' ABEL FERRARA DIRECTS
CONTINUATION OF SCI-FI CLASSIC TO BE DISTRIBUTED BY WARNER BROS.
SELMA, Ala., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Producer Robert H. Solo and Warner Bros. have announced that the esteemed actor Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of "Body Snatchers," currently filming on location in Selma.
In "Body Snatchers," a contemporary thriller inspired by the provocative science-fiction classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," Whitaker will play the pivotal role of Maj. Collins, a military doctor who first notices the frightening changes in his patients. Collins' realization that human lives are being replaced by humanoid, but soulless, alien beings leads to his ultimate act of defiance.
In his distinguished career, Whitaker has created an impressive roster of vivid screen performances. His starring role as jazz great Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood's film "Bird" garnered critical and audience acclaim. His other films include "A Rage in Harlem," "Good Morning Vietnam" opposite Robin Williams, "Platoon" for director Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese's "The Color of Money," Norman Jewison's "A Soldier's Story," and the upcoming "Article 99."
Also starring in "Body Snatchers" are Meg Tilly ("Valmont"), Gabrielle Anwar ("Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken") and Terry Kinney (Broadway's "The Grapes of Wrath"). Director Abel Ferrara ("King of New York") brings his unique vision to the film written by Stuart Gordon & Dennis Paoli and Nicholas St. John.
Although remaining true to the science-fiction genre of the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and producer Robert H. Solo's 1978 remake, the new "Body Snatchers," set in the present day with all new characters and storyline, is told through its youthful protagonists who are forced to realize their own alienation from modern society and to band together for their survival and the survival of humanity.
"Body Snatchers," a Dorset Productions film, will be released by Warner Bros.
