FORD PRICE INCREASES AND DECREASES AVERAGE 0.5%; NO INCREASE FOR SEVEN VEHICLE LINES

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) has notified dealers that the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of 11 car and six light truck lines will increase, and six car and one truck line will remain the same, while three light truck models are decreased.
Taking into account the increases, decreases and those prices that remained the same, the average increase is 0.5 percent, or $97, effective Jan. 10. Including today's action, and excluding added equipment, prices for Ford's 1994 model vehicles are up 0.8 percent over comparably equipped 1993 models, which is well below the rate of inflation.
With today's announcement, the MSRPs for seven vehicle lines -- Ford Mustang, Aspire, Lincoln Town Car, Continental, Mark VIII, Mercury Capri and Villager -- will remain unchanged. In addition, the MSRP of the Ranger Splash will decrease $300 while the price of selected models of F-250 and F-350 will go down $200.
Explaining the changes, Robert L. Rewey, group vice president - Marketing and Sales Operations, Ford North American Automotive Operations, said, "This modest mid-year pricing -- less than taken by GM or the Japanese -- continues to reinforce that Ford is the value leader.
"Because of the company's very moderate price increases on 1993 and 1994 models, our products continue to offer outstanding customer value and our sales continue to be strong," Rewey said. "We are proud Ford has the best-selling car and the best-selling truck in America, as well as five of the top 10 best-selling vehicles."
Base prices of Ford Crown Victoria will increase by $50; Ford Probe and Mercury Grand Marquis LS will rise $70; Ford Escort, Taurus, Thunderbird, Mercury Tracer, Sable and Cougar will go up $100; and Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz will increase by $150.
Truck price increases average between $50 to $280, depending on model.
