FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO LICENSE DIGISONIX TECHNOLOGY
STOUGHTON, Wis., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Nelson Industries, Inc. has

granted the Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) a non-exclusive, worldwide license to use Nelson's Digisonix(R) active sound and vibration control technology on Ford passenger cars and light trucks.
Nelson and Ford currently are engaged in the third year of a development project relating to the application of active sound and vibration control to passenger cars and light trucks. The work is being done at the Eriksson-Geddes Development Center in Madison, Wis.
"We believe the '90s will be the decade when active sound and vibration control technology achieves widespread use in a wide variety of applications, including passenger cars and light trucks," commented Rockne Flowers, president of Nelson Industries. "We appreciate the opportunity to work with Ford to bring this vision closer to reality. We have a long relationship as a supplier of quality acoustic products to Ford, and we look forward to extending that relationship into this new technology," Flowers said.
Under the agreement, Ford will pay royalties for active sound and vibration control systems that are developed or produced using any Nelson technology.
Potential uses for the technology in automobiles and light trucks include electronic muffler and active air induction systems, active engine mounts, active interior noise reduction, and other applications, Flowers said. In addition to Ford, Nelson's Digisonix Division is working with manufacturers to develop applications in other industries, he said.
Nelson Industries is a leading worldwide supplier of mufflers, industrial silencers and other passive noise control systems through its Nelson and Universal Silencer divisions. Nelson's Digisonix Division is the leading supplier of active sound and vibration control systems for industrial fan and commercial heating, ventilating and air-conditioning applications and has had commercial systems in operation since 1986.
