    FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO HOLD AODE TRANSMISSION TECHNICAL BRIEFING
    Ford Motor Company's new electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission (AODE) is designed to provide quality, performance and fuel efficiency -- the result of a $400 million investment program at the company's Livonia (Mich.) Transmission Plant. The transmission is now being installed in the 1992 Lincoln Town Car.
    You are invited to learn additional details about the manufacturing process behind the new transmission during a technical briefing Tuesday, Nov. 12.
    WHAT:  Morning briefing, then tour and lunch with plant and UAW employees to review technical highlights of the new line.  It incorporates 91 new machines and some of the latest manufacturing technology including:  vision systems, robotics, magnetic imaging, laser welding, and automated testing of completed transmissions.
    WHEN:  Tuesday, Nov. 12 -- Program begins at 10 a.m. and will conclude following lunch.
    WHERE:  Livonia Transmission Plant, (Enter Gate 9 off Levan Road, approximately 3/4 mile south of I-96 in Livonia.  Park in visitor parking and proceed to plant lobby).  Do not use Plymouth Road entrance.
    WHO:  Interview and photo opportunities are available with Gene Wise, manager, Livonia Transmission Plant; Fred Ciampa, AODE program manager; along with manufacturing technicians, product engineers and hourly employees.
    WHY:  The AODE transmission represents a major investment and commitment to enhancing the company's powertrains.
