ATLANTA, June 5 /PRnewswire/ -- For the sixth consecutive year, Ford Motor Company will award ten, $1,000 Ford/Pele' soccer scholarships to college-bound Georgia high school students from around the state.
The program, administered by the Georgia State Soccer Association, is supported by Ford Motor Company and its Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers of Georgia.
"At Ford, we recognize the value of team sports, such as soccer, for the emotional and physical development of our young people," said C. John Roberts, Ford Motor Company director of North American public affairs. "We are happy to play this small part in assisting our youth."
Ford/Pele' college scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors, high school graduates who wish to start college, and college students continuing their education. Applicants are evaluated on athletic, extracurricular and academic achievement, as well as personal qualities and citizenship. The scholarship awards can be used at an accredited college, university or community college.
The scholarship program is part of Ford's comprehensive support to the Georgia State Soccer Association.
Last year a record 151 students applied for Ford/Pele' scholarships.
"We are very pleased to work in partnership with Ford Motor Company again this year for the benefit of deserving college-bound soccer athletes across the state of Georgia," said Deborah Hackman, executive director of the Georgia State Soccer Association.
"The inquiries for this year's program have been coming in steadily all year. Ford's commitment to this worthwhile project again this year shows in spite of tough economic times, Ford's community service is still a priority."
