FORD IN BUFFALO - 1992

BUFFALO, N.Y., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Through significant civic and financial contributions in 1992, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and its employees again demonstrated their commitment to the city of Buffalo.
The more than 2,300 employees of Ford's Buffalo Stamping Plant received approximately $101 million in wages and salaries in 1992.
The company also paid slightly more than $2 million in property and sales taxes, and purchased more than $15.7 million worth of goods and services from area supplier plants -- and a total of $435 million from 68 supplier plants throughout the state.
In 1992, $137,500 was donated by Ford and the stamping plant employees to the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. Through Ford's Buffalo Community Relations Committee and its other charitable funds, another $133,000 was given to social, civic, cultural and educational programs in the Buffalo area.
The stamping plant manufactures sheet metal panels, rear floor pan assemblies, rear door assemblies, quarter panels and roofs. These parts are used in a variety of Ford and Lincoln-Mercury vehicles, including the Tempo, Topaz, Mustang, Taurus, Sable, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Thunderbird, Cougar, Continental, Ranger pickup truck and the full-size F-Series pickup truck.
Side panels for a new Ford minivan, the Windstar, scheduled for production in Canada early next year, also will be manufactured at Buffalo Stamping.
Buffalo area Ford dealers sold 8,871 cars and 7,006 trucks in 1992 for increases of 34.2 and 17.5 percent, respectively, compared to 1991. The three Lincoln-Mercury dealers in Buffalo sold 1,959 vehicles in 1992, an increase of seven percent over 1991.
Ford's Financial Services Group also has a number of operations in Buffalo.
Ford Motor Credit Company maintains a branch office in Buffalo with 45 employees. This office provided financing for 18,339 vehicles totaling $407 million --- an increase of 28 percent over 1991. The Associates, a leading consumer, commercial finance and insurance company, has 16 consumer finance offices in New York and two commercial lending offices -- one of which is in Buffalo -- that finance heavy- and medium-duty trucks and truck trailers.
