FORD EXPLORER LIMITED -- THE NEXT LEVEL OF LUXURY

DETROIT, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Explorer, North America's No. 1 compact utility vehicle, has a new flagship named the Explorer Limited -- a tough, four-door, off-road vehicle with the comfort and convenience of a luxury car.
The 1993 Ford Explorer Limited four-door adds sophisticated styling to the highly successful vehicle with a new front fascia with foglamps, color-keyed front bumper, grille, headlamp housing and tape stripe, new luxury wheels, all-terrain tires, and running boards for easier entry and exit.
For interior comfort, the Limited has new luxury leather seating surfaces, air conditioning, JBL audio system with cassette, upgraded carpet and door trim, and a new overhead console with additional storage.
The Explorer Limited also includes automatic transmission and such convenience features as autolamp for automatic headlight turn on/off, remote keyless entry and anti-theft systems, memory driver seat, heated outside mirrors and more. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Limited is $25,672 for the 4x2 and $27,422 for the 4x4 version.
"This is further proof that the best never rest," said Ross H. Roberts, a Ford vice president and Ford Division general manager. "The Limited moves the Explorer to the next level in terms of comfort and luxury. In fact, you could say it's the ultimate blend of luxury with off-road versatility."
The 1993 Ford Explorer Limited is designed specifically to appeal to upscale buyers who want an upscale compact utility vehicle, and is expected to draw a higher percentage of female buyers and college graduates.
The Limited joins a lineup that in the 1992 calendar year chalked up 307,681 sales which is a calendar year record for any compact utility nameplate.
The standard powertrain for the Explorer Limited is the Ford 4.0- liter electronically fuel injected (EFI) V-6 engine matched with a four- speed automatic overdrive transmission. This powertrain combination generates 160 horsepower at 4500 rpm and 220 foot-pounds of torque at 2200 rpm. Properly equipped, the Explorer Limited 4x2 is able to tow up to 5,400 pounds and the 4x4 model can tow up to 5,200 pounds.
