FORD BEGINS 'MOBILITY MOTORING' PROGRAM FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED DRIVERS
DEARBORN, Mich., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Thanks to a new program announced today by Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), independent driving for physically disabled individuals will be easier and less expensive.
Ford's "Mobility Motoring" program will provide up to $750 in customer cash assistance to offset the installation cost of adaptive equipment on 1992 Ford and Lincoln-Mercury cars and light trucks. The program is retroactive to Feb. 15 and will continue through Sept. 30.
Approximately 45,000 physically disabled people enter the new vehicle market each year and potentially could benefit from the "Mobility Motoring" program. The customer cash assistance available under the new program is in addition to any current cash assistance or low-rate financing offered on Ford or Lincoln-Mercury vehicles.
One year of emergency road service and a complimentary cellular telephone also will be offered as part of the "Mobility Motoring" assistance package. The program also will help those needing wheelchair lifts for their vehicles.
"The introduction of our 'Mobility Motoring' program is sound, both in business and human terms," said Robert L. Rewey, vice president - Ford North American Sales Operations.
"We believe our program could help put motoring independence within reach of thousands of physically disabled customers."
A toll-free helpline has been established to assist the physically disabled and their family members in locating authorized assessment centers, adaptive-equipment dealers, and local Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers.
The "Mobility Motoring" hotline is 800-952-2248. A second number has been established for those with hearing or speech impairments: 800-TDD-0312.
