A LIGHTHOUSE complex with views all the way to Ireland has been put up for sale.

It cost pounds 13,500 when it was built near Portpatrick, Wigtownshire, in 1900 but the light was turned off for the final time last July.

The buildings have been converted into a modern six-bedroom home, which has in recent years been rented out to holidaymakers.

The property for sale includes the two-storey main building and a detached cottage.

The accommodation at the lighthouse includes a large sitting room, study and kitchen on the first floor.

The sitting room gives access to the southern and northern terraces as well as a conservatory-style studio on the southern terrace. However, she added: "If the purchasers approached Northern Lighthouse Board they may sell them as well, because the lighthouse has now been decommissioned.

"The board wouldn't sell them to anyone other than the owner of the house because access to the tower is through the house.

"Access is strictly limited to the board's employees."
