FOR ONE WEEKEND, BRUINS WILL BE TROJANS FANS.

Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer

Imagine the Democrats watching the Republican National Convention, and cheering like heck for President George Bush to give a wonderful speech. Or maybe the Hatfields joining the McCoys for a peaceful Thanksgiving dinner The centerpiece of contemporary Thanksgiving in the United States is a large meal, starring a large roasted turkey. All of the dishes in the traditional American version of Thanksgiving Dinner are made from foods native to North America, according to tradition the Pilgrims received these .

 USC to emerge victorious.

``I want 'SC, for sure,'' Bruins senior running back Manuel White Manuel White (born July 2, 1982) is an American football running back.  said in echoing sentiments of teammates.

Of course, UCLA's motivation is all sincere.

The way most of the Bruins view it, if USC beats Notre Dame, then the Trojans maintain their No. 1 ranking. And by doing so, it adds a lot more spice to the Dec. 4 regular-season finale at the Rose Bowl.

``I want them to stay No. 1 when we play them,'' Bruins senior receiver Tab Perry said. ``It makes the magnitude of the game that much higher. They'll definitely be into it a lot more because it's their last game, a rivalry game, their senior day, our senior day. Shoot, that makes it that much more important.

``It makes the competition level that much higher. If they were to lose, they'd be on a low. They already know they're going to the Rose Bowl.''

Perry said he didn't plan on watching the Trojans and Irish, but Bruins quarterback Drew Olson likely will.

``It really doesn't matter (if USC wins), but I would like to beat 'SC as the No. 1 team,'' Olson said. ``I went to the Big Game (Stanford-Cal) last week, and you can't root for anybody. It's hard to cheer. You're kind of sitting down while the whole stadium is up and cheering.''

White said he would be locked onto the television screen, hoping for a Trojans win, and also scouting them.

``We're trying to set up a great story line,'' White said. ``I would like them to be in the position to be undefeated. That makes us more of an underdog. That's what I like "That's What I Like" was a popular single by Jive Bunny & the Mastermixers.

as a competitor, being up against all the odds.''

Well, White will get his wish if USC wins because the odds, without question, will be enormous against UCLA on a few levels.

The Bruins haven't beaten a top-ranked team since upsetting Ohio State 23-10 in the 1976 Rose Bowl, and have lost their past four against the nation's No. 1 team. Overall, UCLA is 4-8 against teams ranked No. 1, including 0-3 when USC is ranked No. 1.

Still, the Bruins (6-4) would prefer to meet USC (10-0) in a game with national significance rather than one that would solely determine which mid-level bowl game the Bruins will go to.
