A tight extra-inning game quickly turned into a blowout and Loyola of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  was the beneficiary of errors, walks and horrific pitching.

The Cubs scored nine runs in the top of the eighth and went on to defeat La Mirada La Mirada (lä mĭrä`də), city (1990 pop. 40,452), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1960. The victory ended a long wait for the Cubs, who hadn't won a baseball title since 1954.

"It's the greatest feeling in the world," said Loyola first baseman Curtis Wagner, who tied the score at 2-2 with his run on a fielder's choice field·er's choice

Entering the eighth tied at 2-2, Loyola started with a walk by Daniel Muno. Little did he know he'd get the ball rolling when the next batter, William Gilmore William Evans Garrett Gilmore (born February 16, 1895 - died December 5, 1969) was an American rower who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics.

"A bunch of small ball, that's what we did all year," the Fresno State-bound Muno said. "Things happen when you put the ball in play. Just like that, we get a simple bunt down and they throw it away and that's how it all started."

"In a 2-2 game in the eighth, for it to be 11-2 is surprising, but we just hung with them," Loyola coach Brian Felten said. "I was pretty sure that one wasn't going to be enough and I think that long inning got to Jordan a little bit. That extended time was tough on him and it showed, but we were able to have a big enough lead where we could get seniors some time on the mound."

La Mirada took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a dropped third strike that scored Ricky Norona from third.

A fielder's choice in the fourth scored Loyola's Curtis Wagner to tie the score at 2-2.
