SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - More than $500,000 was given to six local Boys & Girls Clubs Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. Only two out of a total of thirteen episodes created were broadcast on Fox Television in the United States and Global Television in Canada.  on Tuesday, with each receiving a hand-delivered check from Rep. Elton Gallegly Elton W. Gallegly (born March 7 1944), an American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1987, currently representing the 24th District of California (map). , R-Oxnard.

The funds are to be used to help increase membership, including after-school participants, and to attract more teen-agers, officials said.

``The Boys & Girls Club has been very successful in helping to deter kids from taking the wrong path,'' said Linda White '''Linda Marie[1] White''' was Alpha Kappa Alpha's twenty-sixth International President, who served from 2002 to 2006. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in political science from Clark College, and attained a Master of Arts in political , executive director of the Simi Valley branch, which received $100,000.

``We usually get a small piece, but not nearly like this,'' said White. ``It's a rare opportunity to receive this kind of money. Sometimes Ventura County is not looked at as a blighted county. . . . We're extremely excited.''

Gallegly visited five clubs throughout Ventura County - in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, Ventura and Santa Paula Santa Paula (săn`tə pôl`ə), city (1990 pop. 25,062), Ventura co., S Calif., on the Santa Clara River in a fertile valley that yields citrus fruits, avocados, vegetables, flowers, nursery products, and walnuts; laid out 1875, inc.  - and presented a $100,000 check to each. He delivered a $25,000 check to a club in Carpinteria.

``I don't think there's a better outlet or resource in this country than the Boys & Girls Club,'' Gallegly said. ``What this money does is not only help provide the operational facilities, but also provide greater outreach to the ones who aren't already members.

``Oftentimes, the ones who can benefit the most from the programs aren't the ones who are going to walk through the door,'' he said.

``We did very well,'' Gallegly said. He said it was the first time local clubs had received so much in federal grants and added: ``It won't be the last.''

Gallegly procured the funds for the clubs in his 23rd Congressional District Noun 1. congressional district - a territorial division of a state; entitled to elect one member to the United States House of Representatives

by applying to the Boys & Girls Club of America, which disperses funds under a grant the organization received from the U.S. Bureau of Justice.

Because the clubs continue to keep so many young people away from trouble, the Bureau of Justice gives grants from its delinquency-prevention funds, White said.
