Nemback, 27, had been a well-liked fourth-grade teacher and taught Sunday school at her church. Joel Kyne, a 49-year-old carpenter, was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Kyne had been drinking on and off all day before he ran a stop sign at 60th Street West and Avenue J, his vehicle colliding with Nemback's car as she drove home from a shopping trip with her mother and sister, prosecutors said.

Kyne was tested at a blood-alcohol level of .35, or more than four times the legal limit, after the crash, officials said.
