FOOTBALL NOTES NEWBURY PARK NEEDS TO KICK-START KICKING GAME.

Newbury Park High spent much of its preseason practices at nearby Peppertree Park while the Panthers' stadium underwent construction.

The park doesn't have goal posts, preventing the Panthers from practicing field goals or extra points. And when the workouts shifted back to campus the Monday before the season began, Newbury Park simply took placekicking for granted.

``The four PATs we had in the (the season opener against Burroughs) were our first four live PAT's of the year,'' Panthers coach George Hurley George Hurley (born September 4 1958 in Brockton, Massachusetts) is a drummer noted for his work with The Minutemen and fIREHOSE. Hurley's powerful style brought a sense of musicianship to the genre, paving the way for new possibilities in underground music.  said. ``We had time to get (the kick in). We just chose to do something else instead.''

The Marmonte League got bruised last week, going a collective 1-6 in nonleague games. Only Royal was a winner, over Channel Islands.
