An avid football fan with an exuberance for life and a strong spirit, Bruce Partridge led a full life despite serious health problems.

``All of his illness was counterbalanced by his love for football. He would lean over a fence to see kids play a game,'' said Barbara Partridge, his wife of 46 years.

``He was an optimistic person. If I'd ask him about how he kept his spirits up (when he was ill), he would say, 'I always think I'm going to get better.' He had grit, deep resolve and a lot of patience.''

Partridge was born July 25, 1939, in Bridgeport, Conn., and reared in West Springfield West Springfield, town (1990 pop. 27,537), Hampden co., SW Mass., on the Connecticut River opposite Springfield; settled 1654, set off from Springfield and inc. 1774.  in 1961, when he went to work as an electrical engineer at Lockheed in Burbank. He also worked for Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo and West Hills, and Teledyne in Northridge before retiring in 1997.

Partridge was diagnosed at age 30 with congenital kidney disease, and eventually underwent dialysis treatments and kidney and liver transplants. The condition eventually curtailed the biking and hiking activities he enjoyed with his family.

But it didn't limit his enthusiasm for the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  football team, which he would cheer on from the stands with the cry of ``Mighty Trojan Warriors.'' Partridge also coached the West Valley Eagles, a Pop Warner football league, and teams in the West Hills Baseball League. When his eldest son attended Chatsworth High School, Partridge scouted football for the coaches at the school.

``He was very stoic. He had a lot of drive and always a positive attitude,`` said son Scott Partridge. ``I learned from him that I could achieve anything with the right attitude and if I put in the proper effort.''

Partridge loved to travel and enjoyed his trips to France and England. His music of choice was 1950s rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music.  and bluegrass music. He was a longtime animal lover. His wife said Partridge always had to have animals at home, especially dogs.

Partridge is survived by his wife, Barbara, and sons, Bruce Jr. and Scott Partridge.

A memorial service was held Friday at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Woodland Hills. Cremation cremation, disposal of a corpse by fire.
