FOODBANK TO RECEIVE AREA'S LARGEST DONATION FROM LTV STEEL'S 3RD ANNUAL EMPLOYEE DRIVE

FOODBANK TO RECEIVE AREA'S LARGEST DONATION
FROM LTV STEEL'S 3RD ANNUAL EMPLOYEE DRIVE
The employees at eight LTV Steel locations in Cleveland will again for the third straight year donate the largest collection of food items to the Cleveland Foodbank as part of the "Harvest For Hunger" campaign.
At a ceremony to be held at noon on June 4 at LTV Steel's Cleveland Works, the company's employees will present to the Foodbank 49,811 food items and a check for more than $16,000 for the purchase of additional food. LTV Steel's Cleveland Works is located at 3100 East 45th Street, Cleveland. Call 216-429-6445 for directions.
About 125 employees will be on hand to help load a moving van, supplied by Andrews Moving Company, with more than 70 pallets of food and nonperishable items. The ceremonies will include a band, balloons and the presentation of a giant check.
During the two-week campaign, the employees used a variety of "fun-raising" activities -- from dunking booths and raffles to food sales -- to stimulate donations. The drive included thousands of employees at LTV's Cleveland Works, General Office, District Sales Office, Internal Audit, LTV Technical Center, Cleveland Steel & Tube, L-SE Co. and Railroads.
 Highlights of the drive include:
-- Two employees alone brought in 2,400 food items and one brought in 735 items.
-- The 35-person Internal Audit Group collected 3,300 food items in memory of a fellow employee, Mike Jeffers, who died just prior to the beginning of the drive.
-- The winner of a raffle donated half his winnings back to the campaign.
-- The largest single department donation was 4,306 items.
Separate food drives were held at LTV Steel locations in Lorain and Elyria to benefit the Lorain Community Cupboard Foodbank and at Warren and Youngstown locations for the Mahoning Valley Foodbank. More than 7,500 food items are expected to be collected for these two locations.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Media coverage of the ceremony is invited. Employees are available for interview prior to the ceremony.
