FOOD SAFETY AND AGRICULTURE AWARENESS HIGHLIGHTED AT OHIO STATE FAIR

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors to the 1993 Ohio State Fair will have the opportunity to see how the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) helps ensure a wholesome food supply. Throughout the fair, expert speakers from the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Ohio State University Extension and commodity groups will give brief presentations on food safety and consumer awareness at the Agriculture Center located next to the Davey Beef Barn at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Presentations will be given on topics such as preventing foodborne diseases, sources of food contamination, proper food handling, cooking and refrigeration techniques as well as lawn and gardening tips.
"Being at the Ohio State Fair allows ODA to show consumers how their food safely reaches them at their grocery store," said ODA Director Fred Dailey.
The grand and reserve champion steers, sheep, pigs and chickens will be on display in the Agriculture Center. Consumer education programs and an OSU composting demonstration will also take place in the Agriculture Center throughout the fair.
