FOOD PANTRY RECEIVES GIFT WORTHY OF MERIT EAGLE SCOUT SOUPS UP OPERATIONS.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987.  project to have a big impact so he decided to help the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Food Pantry better coordinate service for its more that 3,400 clients.

"The shelves will really help us become more efficient in our food distribution area," said Belinda Crawford, the pantry's executive director. "We have added several children's nutrition programs in the last year and needed shelf space for specialized spe·cial·ize

The carts have been needed for quite some time, she added.

"Our client base is growing. We distribute over 1,000 pounds of food each day and one cart just wasn't enough anymore. We asked Jonathan for one more and he built two," Crawford said. "He did a wonderful job and we are just thrilled thrill

Salkeld, a member of Troop 888, said he enjoyed the project and the Scouting scouting: see Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts.

Activities of various national and worldwide organizations for youth aimed at developing character, citizenship, and individual skills. Scouting began when Robert S.
 program in general where he spent years "making a lot of friends and learning things I'll use later in life like survival skills and people skills."

Salkeld's scoutmaster is his father, Edward Salkeld, who was proud of his son's accomplishment.

"He planned the project and learned how to coordinate a group of people," the father said. "I hold him to the same high standard I hold all of our Scouts."

The food pantry is celebrating its 20th year. Established in 1986 by a small group of community volunteers, the pantry uses food donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified local residents. Approximately 60 volunteers work together to sort food, prepare bags and assist clients.
