Organizers expect the event to draw as many as 400 people and raise about $5,000, said Elaine Hintlian of the Kiwanis Club.

``This is always one of our major fund-raisers for the year and we are really excited about it,'' Hintlian said. ``It really produces a lot of money for some deserving youth programs.''

Among the charities to benefit are the Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. Tickets, which pay for a lobster or chicken dinner, are $20 for adults and $4 for children. Music and dancing will follow the dinner.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, the Elks Lodge will sponsor its second annual Chili Cookoff. Organizers expect upward of 1,500 attendees and hope to raise about $4,000 for charity.

The event will be held at the Elks Lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive. Tickets are $2.

The festivities will include a Corvette corvette, small warship, classed between a frigate and a sloop-of-war. Corvettes usually were flush-decked and carried fewer than 28 guns. They were widely employed in escorting convoys and attacking merchant ships during the great naval wars of the late 18th and  car show and music. Organizers say there will be several vendor booths and 15 competitors in the cookoff.

Simi Valley Days events will continue on Sept. 9, with an English and Western horse riding show, and a car show will be held Sept. 10.

The carnival, featuring live entertainment by local bands and performers, will run Sept. 20-24. Festival organizers say they are still booking acts, and that local entertainers are encouraged to apply.

The Simi Valley Days parade is scheduled for Sept. 23.

The festivities will finish up with the Simi Valley Days Rodeo, scheduled for Sept. 23 and 24, and a 5-10K run Sept. 24.
