FOLLETT CORP. BECOMES AN OFFICIAL NCAA CORPORATE PARTNER; THE FIRST WHOSE BUSINESS FOCUSES SOLELY ON EDUCATION

RIVER GROVE, Ill., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Follett Corp., North America's leading provider of services to education from kindergarten through higher education, announced that it has become an official NCAA Corporate Partner -- the first partner whose business focuses solely on service to education.
Follett joins the ranks of only 13 other corporate partners. Apart from Follett, all the NCAA's Corporate Partners are major consumer products companies.
NCAA Corporate Partners work to further NCAA substance-abuse education programs and sports development activities for youth. The Corporate Partnership Program also supports intercollegiate athletics through advertising in NCAA Championships publications, on NCAA Championships radio and television programming, and in conjunction with other NCAA Championships promotional activities.
"We are delighted to have secured Follett's participation as a Corporate Partner," said Francis Canavan, NCAA group executive director for public affairs and director of the Corporate Partnership Program. "Follett's commitment to education and involvement as a Corporate Partner will greatly enhance the NCAA's ability to create programs that speak to the needs of colleges and universities, supporting both athletics and scholarship."
"We are proud to be an NCAA Corporate Partner," said P. Richard Litzsinger, Follett's president and CEO. "This program means more than just involvement in intercollegiate athletics, important though that is. It also uses the power of the NCAA and its pre-eminence in college sports to reach young people with pro-academic, pro-health, pro-fitness messages and activities that are crucial to our nation's future development.
"Our business puts us in touch with students, and their institutions, all the way from kindergarten through graduate school," Litzsinger continued. "We think our knowledge of students' and schools' needs has the potential to help the NCAA and its member institutions as they develop new and improved youth programs."
Follett's fit with the NCAA is exceptional. It is the one company in America that influences students all the way from kindergarten through college and graduate school, with unsurpassed knowledge of students and their needs. Follett also understands the challenges now facing colleges and universities, including how to provide a quality education to student bodies of unprecedented diversity, while simultaneously generating new revenue sources that can help to hold down costs. The company has shown its ability to support all these goals.
In the 120 years since its founding in 1873, Follett Corp. has established a unique partnership with American education. Its Follett College Stores division is the nation's largest operator of college stores, managing bookstores at more than 400 colleges and universities serving more than 2 million students nationwide.
Follett's five other divisions serve customers ranging from college faculty and university bookstores to elementary and high school libraries and local school districts. Each year, students and their institutions together realize more than $100 million in cost savings and/or revenue increases by taking advantage of Follett's services.
Founded in 1906 through the leadership of Theodore Roosevelt, the National Collegiate Athletic Association enables institution presidents, academic officers and athletic administrators to develop programs that enhance and promote college athletics as an integral part of the academic community. Its 1,101 members include 895 colleges and universities with more than 14.6 million students, more than 31 million living alumni and approximately 300,000 participating student-athletes.
