FMC awarded Canadian Terra Nova project for subsea and floating production systems.


HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 1996--FMC Corporation's Energy and Transportation Equipment Group announced today that through its participation in the Grand Banks Grand Banks, submarine plateau rising from the continental shelf, c.36,000 sq mi (93,200 sq km), off SE Newfoundland, N.L., Canada. It is c.300 mi (480 km) long and c.400 mi (640 km) wide; depths range from 20 to 100 fathoms.  Alliance, FMC See fixed mobile convergence.  has been selected to provide subsea Subsea is a general term frequently used to refer to equipment, technology, and methods employed to explore, drill, and develop oil and gas fields that exist below the ocean floors. This may be in "shallow" or "deepwater".  and floating production equipment for Petro-Canada's Terra Nova oil field located offshore Newfoundland in Canada.

According to Joe Netherland, vice president and general manager of FMC's Energy and Transportation Equipment Group, ``FMC is committed to be the leading supplier of turnkey equipment and services. Our selection enhances our already strong presence in subsea and floating production technologies. We look forward to working with our partners in bringing this field on-line for Petro-Canada.''

During the next phase of the project, FMC and its alliance partners will proceed with engineering studies and purchase of long lead-time items. In mid-1997, upon completion of the studies and government permit approval, a contract award to the alliance for the remaining equipment and services is expected. The sales value to FMC for that contract award could total $230 million.

The alliance consists of FMC Offshore Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of FMC Corporation; ShawMont Brown and Root (SBR SBR - Spectral Band Replication ), a joint venture of ShawMont Newfoundland Limited and Halliburton Canada Inc.; Coflexip Stena Offshore International; PCL (Printer Command Language) The page description language for HP LaserJet printers. The Terra Nova project will be one of the most technologically sophisticated ever undertaken. Development of the field will include a steel floating production storage and offloading A Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO; also called a "unit" and a "system") is a type of floating tank system used by the offshore oil and gas industry and designed to take all of the oil or gas produced from a nearby platform (s), process it, and store  system with a quick disconnect turret and an extensive network of subsea flowlines and wellhead well·head
