FM Advisor: Leader Has Final Say on Iran-US Talks.

Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior advisor to the Iranian foreign minister rejected that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is seeking talks with the US administration, underlining that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say on the issue.

"The negotiation with the US is not possible without the permission by Imam and the Leader, and any kind of talks with the US must be permitted by the Supreme Leader," Manouchehr Mohammadi said in a round table on Iran and the US relations in Tehran's Amir Kabir University on Sunday."No Iranian President or Foreign Minister has had or will have the permission to act on establishment of relations with the US," Mohammadi noted in the round table also attended by prominent Iranian politicians, including Kazzem Jalali, Abbas Salimi Namin.The United States and Iran broke diplomatic relations in April 1980, after Iranian students seized the United States' espionage center at its embassy in Tehran. The two countries have had tense relations ever since.Mohammadi further noted that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is neither seeking talks nor intending to establish relations with the US."Iran's President wants to open a debate with Obama not on insignificant issues but on justice of the world and public diplomacy," the advisor underlined.Reminding the pressures exerted on Washington by the Zionist lobbies, the advisor questioned the US administration ability to move towards path of its national interests."In practice the US seeks further sanctions against Iran and passes budget for interference in the country's domestic issues and on the other hand it speaks of talks with Iran."
