``If I were living in this district, I would want John Flynn to be my supervisor,'' said Ventura County Sheriff Bob Brooks. ``He really puts the `service' into public service.''

Takasugi has formed a committee to explore a run for the 5th District seat and is expected to make a decision within 10 days.

``At this moment, it's just wide open,'' Takasugi said Tuesday.

Flynn was first elected to the four-year supervisor post in 1972, after defeating Oxnard resident Tom Laubacker.

He lost to Laubacker in 1976 but gained the seat back in 1980 - Laubacker did not seek re-election. Flynn has been re-elected in every race since.
