VALENCIA - The Valencia Flyers are going to Vegas with house money.

More importantly, considering the second-place Bombers (30-4) thrashed Valencia 16-3 just three weeks ago, the Flyers - who can clinch a playoff berth in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. Valencia needs help in the playoff race, but it should get it. The Flyers are in fifth place, trailing the fourth-place Roseville Capital Thunder (16-19, 33 points) for the final playoff spot. An expected Phoenix sweep combined with three Valencia victories (or two victories and an overtime loss) in its past four games would guarantee a playoff berth.

Had the Flyers won the shootout, a sweep against Nevada (combined with a Phoenix sweep of Roseville) would have meant they'd be playing for third place March 8 in their regular-season finale against the San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. Nevertheless, the team's best performance of the season couldn't have come at a better time.

``I think it showed that we can compete at that level,'' Flyers coach Ryan Rockabrand said. ``Now they know what they're capable of, and hopefully it's something we can build on.''
