FLU SHOTS AGAIN AVAILABLE FOR AREA'S SENIORS, AILING.

PALMDALE - Armed with fresh supplies of vaccine, Los Angeles County health officials will offer free flu shots to senior citizens Tuesday at the Palmdale Senior Center.

A limited supply of the vaccine will be available from 10 a.m. to noon to residents who are 60 or older or who suffer from asthma, heart or kidney disease or other chronic illnesses.

The county's Antelope Valley Health Center in Lancaster, which ran out of serum last month, is again offering flu shots to senior citizens and those with chronic ailments.

The center, located at 335B E. Ave. K-6, is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Palmdale clinic was scheduled after 180 people were turned away from one held at the senior center in November.

On Nov. 9, more than 400 seniors began lining up early in the morning to receive flu shots at the senior center, but volunteers ran out of the vaccine quickly.

Four days later, county health officials canceled another clinic that had been scheduled at a Littlerock group home.

A nationwide manufacturing problem in developing this year's flu vaccine has caused delays for many local health care providers. Many were waiting in November to get the vaccine, which usually starts being administered in October.
