FLOYD MAYWEATHER Floyd Mayweather is the name of two persons, father and son:
  • Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father, former boxing contender and current trainer
  • Floyd Mayweather, Jr., the son, multiple division boxing champion
demanded his place in boxing history be recognised after ending his 21-month retirement with a victory.

The 32-year-old, back in the ring for the first time since beating Ricky Hatton Richard Hatton MBE (born October 6 1978, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England), is a British boxer. He is seen by many as one of the greatest British fighters of all-time and is currently one of the top 10 pound for pound fighters in the world.  in December 2007, was booed as he entered the stage for his non-title fight with Mexico's former world champion Juan Manuel Marquez in glitzy glitz   Informal

And after his impressive, unanimous points decision success, a disappointed Mayweather admitted: "I'm never going to win.

"When am I going to get my just due and people just acknowledge that Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter?" Although Marquez was a world champion at three different weights, there was criticism of Mayweather's selection of a former featherweight champion, who had most recently fought at lightweight, as his opponent for this comeback welterweight bout.

That criticism intensified when Mayweather (below) failed to make the contracted weight of 144lbs, tipping the scales at 146lbs, four heavier than Marquez.

The American's career record is now 40 wins from 40 fights, including 25 knockouts, and he added: "To be the best, you have got to beat the best in your era.

"It's not about weight classes. I came from a small weight class, too." Mayweather won his first world title in 1998 at junior lightweight, 17 pounds lighter than the welterweight division in which he now competes.

Immediately after the fight, he was challenged by fellow American and WBC WBC white blood cell; see leukocyte.

 welterweight champion Shane Mosley.

"I'm hoping that the best will fight the best," said Mosley. "That's what the sport of boxing needs.

"I'm the No.1 welterweight champion out there right now and I'm the type that's willing to fight anybody. I want to clean up the division so everyone will know I'm the best fighter."

Mayweather refused to be drawn into any speculation about his next opponent.

"Tonight's not Shane Mosley's night," he said.

"No disrespect to Mosley, but he's supposed to be in training camp, not worrying about me.

"All roads lead to Floyd Mayweather. Everybody wants to fight me. I can't fight everybody."
